Book of the Month Review
Book of the Month is a membership-based, paid service that offers a curated selection per month of the ‘five best books’ found across hundreds of titles. Members pay for a plan that includes the monthly shipment of one hardcover book of their choice. To help readers make their next book selection, there is an ‘Editorial Team’ and ‘Judges’ that provide a critique and recommendations of titles for the month. A percentage representing how many members that choose a particular book is also available. In the end, avid readers are treated to a constant flow of highly-rated book titles delivered to their front door.
Book of the Month offers three membership plan options: 1-, 3-, and 12-month. Book selections cover an extensive range of genres that include both fiction and nonfiction titles. New selections are announced on the 1st of every month, and members are expected to make their book decisions by the 6th (or choose to skip the month’s shipment). Books are then shipped for free, and depending on the length of a membership, the entire process occurs again for the next month.
Past book recommendations (such as Dark Matter by Blake Crouch; Rich & Pretty by Rumaan Alam; Before the Fall by Noah Hawley; and Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld) are shared on the Book of the Month site with the past five months archived and ready for viewing. They have been selected by Judges that include the likes of Arianna Huffington, Liberty Hardy, Joel Stein, and Maris Kreizman, who provide a summary of a book’s plot and some of their thoughts.
