Shaw’s was founded in Portland, Maine, in May 1860 when George Clinton Shaw opened a small grocery at 285 Middle Street. In 1974, the Stoughton BPM store became the third store in the United States to install a customer-operated cash register scanning system when Data General installed a preproduction version in the store. In 1979, the two companies finally merged to become Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc. In 2013, AB Acquisition LLC purchased Shaw’s from SUPERVALU, bringing together Shaw’s, Star Markets, all of the Albertsons stores, ACME Markets, and Jewel-Osco to form a food and drug retail chain consisting of more than 2,200 stores with approximately 265,000 employees nationwide. Shaw’s goal is to become the favorite grocery and prescription drug store of customers in every state in which they do business. Toward that end, they aim to offer quality merchandise and value in their pricing. At Shaw’s Osco pharmacies, you can schedule appointments for health screenings or simply walk in. The pharmacy offers A1c, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose screenings. The A1c screening reveals how well your blood sugar levels were controlled over the previous three months while the blood glucose screening determines the amount of glucose or sugar in your blood at the time of the test.
